Jalen Brunson is the reigning Clutch Player of the Year award winner from the 2024-25 season. The award is only in its fourth season, but it appears that there could be a repeat winner this season with the New York Knicks‘ superstar guard.
Against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, Brunson showcased why he is one of the most feared players in the clutch. He made some of the toughest shots during the game, and he did it with the full faith of his teammates. This includes his longtime friend and teammate, Josh Hart.

The Knicks have some of the most talented rosters in the league. However, it is unanimous that Brunson is the Knicks’ best player. Everyone can agree that he is the go-to guy, whether it’s in the first three quarters or in the clutch.
He has been rewarded for his clutch play before with the Clutch Player of the Year award, but his teammates’ faith is also an honor for him. Head coach Mike Brown has felt the same as his predecessor, Tom Thibodeau, who also recognized Brunson as the best first option on the team.

While the Knicks have good players like Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges, Brunson continues to be the top dog. Against the Pelicans, he took over, as he brushed past defenders and scored in the paint over big defenders.
“That’s the position I know he likes to be in. We want him in that position, and you learn when you watch his game, when you play this game, the last three or four minutes, that’s winning time. That’s when your superstar and main guys show why they are at that level, and that’s what he did,” Hart said after the Knicks beat the Pelicans.
Everyone in the Knicks community knows he is the team’s captain, which is why he keeps taking charge. He is leading by example, as he is hitting clutch baskets again and again. Whenever the team needs him, he will be there to take over and prove that he is the Knicks’ best player.
