British Open live golf scores, results, highlights from Saturday's Open Championship Round 3

The Open Championship provided a ton of drama on the second day of action, from early in the morning to late in the evening.

Lucas Herbert was the story of the day with an incredible round, even flirting for history. The Australian shot a 62, tying for the lowest score in major history, but he missed a putt for a 61. Nonetheless, he takes a two-shot lead into Saturday.

For a while, it seemed like Bryson DeChambaeu would join Herbert in the final group just one-shot back. However, DeChambeau was assessed a two-shot penalty for illegally improving his lie on the fifth hole, despite DeChambeau pleading his case with the officials

Other players lurking on the leaderboard include Cameron Young, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood. Thursday leader Jackson Suber will now play with Herbert on Saturday while Ryan Gerard, Si Woo Kim and Sam Burns are also in striking distance.

The Open Championship is set to continue into the weekend, providing plenty more highlights to come. Who will win the last major of 2026?

British Open live updates, results from Saturday’s Open Championship Round 3

All times Eastern.

1:44 p.m. —  Welcome to the top-six, Ludvig Aberg. He shot -3 today to put him at -6 overall.

1:40 p.m. — Suber continues to hang around the top of the leaderboard:

12:45 p.m. — It’s chaotic at the top right now in Round 3; Si Woo Kim is another player who has taken a share of the lead, but Lucas Herbert is currently paving the way at -9.

12:33 p.m. — For a moment, Sam Burns took the solo lead. Now sitting back at -8, he’s three-under today through nine holes.

12:15 p.m. — Nearly one of the shots of the tournament for Fleetwood:

11:49 a.m. — Cameron Young joins Burns, Suber and Herbert at -7, making Fox the solo leader for now.

11:22 a.m. — A birdie on Hole 7 for Fleetwood puts him tied for third in a packed leaderboard:

11:20 a.m. — Sam Burns remains in contention, just one stroke back of the lead at -7.

10:52 a.m. — Some highlights from big names on Day 3, including Scheffler, DeChambeau and Fleetwood:

10:19 a.m. — DeChambeau is, in fact, in attendance for Round 3.

10:04 a.m. — For the third time this week, the Open scoring record of 62 has been tied.

9:49 a.m. — Ryan Fox finishes with an incredible -8 for the day, which puts him tied for the lead. 

9:43 a.m. — After his controversy yesterday, Bryson DeChambeau cleared the air on social media overnight by confirming he will continue playing. 

“Obviously disappointed with the ruling. I don’t agree with it, but it is what it is,” DeCheambeau wrote. “This fires me up. Onto the weekend. Let’s get it.

9:18 a.m. — What a shot from Rory McIlroy:

9:15 a.m. — One bigger name having a nice start to Saturday is Justin Thomas, who is at -4 overall and -3 for the day through 10 holes.

9:14 a.m. — A brutal spot for Brooks Koepka earlier today:

9:09 a.m. — Welcome to Day 3. So far today, Ryan Fox has skyrocketed up the scoreboard, now trailing the leading Lucas Herbert by just one stroke at -7. Eight birdies through 16 holes for Fox.

Round 2

4:00 p.m.: DeChambeau’s round is now in question after rules officials claim he may have illegally improved his lie on the fifth hole. That would be a two-shot penalty.

3:33 p.m.: Rahm and Fleetwood both have solid finishes, as both are at -4 and very much in play this weekend. Spieth, meanwhile, is done after a disastrous +10.

3:23 p.m.: DeChambeau birdies the last hole and he will be in the final pair tomorrow with Lucas Herbert.

3:12 p.m.: Jon Rahm was given a code of conduct warning for throwing a club after a bad tee shot on 15.

3:09 p.m.: DeChambeau is now just two-shots back of Herbert after birdieing 17. He’s in great position entering the weekend.

2:51 p.m.: Min Woo Lee’s birdie on 18 should keep him around for the weekend, depending how the rest of the field finishes.

2:27 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler has quietly made his way to -4, which is currently in a tie for sixth on the leaderboard.

2:01 p.m.: Justin Thomas has bounced back following a slow start, as his latest birdie puts him at -3 for the Open.

1:57 p.m.: Jack McDonald holes out from the fairway to temporarily move him above the cut line.

1:25 p.m.: DeChambeau and Ryan Gerard join the group at -5 as they look to end the day strong.

12:47 p.m.: DeChambeau sent his drive left of the green on the fourth hole, but he gets it up-and-down for another birdie.

12:19 p.m.: While Matt Fitzpatrick will miss the cut, his brother Alex is very much in contention at -5 after an eagle.

12:08 p.m.: Robet McIntyre gets an eagle on 17 and all of a sudden he’s at -5 for the tournament.

12:02 p.m.: Tyrrell Hatton has gone through all kinds of emotions today, but he birdies the seventh hole to get back to under par for the tournament.

11:25 a.m.: Bryson DeChambeau gets his day off to a strong start with a birdie on the 4th to move to -4 on the tournament.

10:55 a.m.: Tommy Fleetwood birdied the second hole to get to -2 for the tournament as he looks to parlay hometown support to a big weekend.

10:20 a.m.: The trio of Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick all had to grind just to make the cut, but Fitzpatrick’s 72 means he will miss the weekend. McIlroy and Schauffele, though, appear safe at -1 and E, respectively.

10:12 a.m.: Cameron Young had a strong day with a 67, ending his Friday at -6 and two-shots back of Herbert’s lead.

10:00 a.m.: Herbert bogeyed the last hole to tie the major record with a 62, then Sam Burns ended his round with a 62 as well. Those two are now in the history books.

8:33 a.m.: Herbert birdies No. 16 and is now 9-under for the day and the tournament.

8:20 a.m.: A major eagle for Thomas Detry:

8:10 a.m.: It’s Lucas Herbert’s day, as Herbert started 8-under through his first 12 holes and is two shots clear of the rest of the leaderboard.

Round 1

5:00 p.m. — Round 1 is complete. Suber is officially your solo leader at five-under, a strong start as he contends for his first top-20 finish at a major, led alone a win.

3:42 p.m. — Cameron Young adds his name to the list of early contenders, wrapping up the round at -3.

3:15 p.m. — Rory McIlroy is hovering at +2 as he approaches his final hole. 

2:22 p.m. — Matt Fitzpatrick nearly had an ace:

2:12 p.m. — Suber finished as the solo leader, potentially in position to take his lead into Day 2 if some of the later groups can’t catch up. The 26-year-old, who turned professional in 2022, has only made the cut at a major one time, let alone contend for one.

1:30 p.m. — Harry Hall with an amazing chip-in eagle:

1:01 p.m. — There’s a new leader, for the time being: Jackson Suber. Through 17 holes, he’s at -5, giving him the solo lead.

12:54 p.m. — Quite the shot from Nicolai Hojgaard:

12:50 p.m. — Joining the collection of players at -3 is Colin Morikawa, who has five birdies through 11 holes.

12:02 p.m. — Every group has now teed off from Royal Birkdale. Daniel Brown and Sungjae Im remain the co-leaders at -4, while a group including Thomas Detry, Bryson DeChambeau and Robert Macintyre follows.

11:22 a.m. — Scottie Scheffler, finishing at -2 in Round 1, speaks on his first day of the tournament:

10:30 a.m. — Bryson DeChambeau, looking to overcome some bad majors so far this year, is off to a nice start in Round 1. A nice putt on Hole 17 helped him finish the day at -3.

9:30 a.m. — What an escape job here from Hideki Matsuyama:

8:56 a.m. — After birdies at No.’s 14 and 15, Alex Smalley is the standalone leader at 5-under par.

8:50 a.m. — Looking to get back into the mix in a major before the end of the year, Jon Rahm is off to a solid start at Royal Birkdale.

8:08 a.m. — While it’s been a long day already at Royal Birkdale, we’re still about two hours from stars Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele teeing off in their first round of action.

8:00 a.m. — It’s been a difficult year in majors for Bryson DeChambeau, but he’s even with Scheffler at 3-under through 11 holes in the first round.

7:15 a.m. — Scottie Scheffler enters the 2026 tournament as the defending British Open champion, and his quest to repeat is off to a hot start. The world No. 1 golfer has four birdies through the first six holes to give him a great start to the first round. 

6 a.m.: Good morning from Royal Birkdale! While the North American audience is waking up, the British Open has been underway for a few hours, with the first group teeing off at 1:35 a.m. Thursday morning.
