With training camp here for the Los Angeles Lakers, they currently have 16 players on their roster. That’s something the Lakers will have to figure out throughout the rest of the offseason, though there’s hope and expectation that Los Angeles will do what’s right.
All fans want the organization to make the necessary moves to improve on both ends of the floor, though it doesn’t necessarily have to be a blockbuster move.
Unfortunately, the Lakers don’t really have a ton of assets to go out and make that blockbuster move, which is why the latest report doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
A recent report suggests that the Lakers could have made a trade for Buddy Hield, who was recently traded to the Chicago Bulls by the Atlanta Hawks.
“A possible consolidation trade is something the Lakers have looked at quite a bit this offseason, both reaching out to teams and having teams reach out to them about the possibility of a deal, league sources told ClutchPoints.
“One player that stood out in multiple deals due to the trades he was involved in was sharpshooter Buddy Hield, who was recently moved from the Atlanta Hawks to the Charlotte Hornets and then to the Chicago Bulls.
“Sources say the Lakers could’ve made a “2-for-1 move” to trade for Hield, but the organization ultimately elected against doing so. Although the exact reasoning for this was not provided, one can assume the main reason for this is due to Los Angeles likely needing to include a second-round pick to move two contracts,” Brett Siegel wrote.
Hield is a tough player to evaluate at this stage of his career, as he’s shown some promise at times over the past few seasons, but really isn’t more than a ninth or 10th man on a team.
With the Golden State Warriors in 2025-26, where he spent most of the season, playing 44 games, he shot just 34.4% from 3-point range.
Hield isn’t the same type of shooter that he once was, though he could’ve been a fit in Los Angeles depending on how JJ Redick could’ve hidden him defensively.
