Celtics trade pitch sends $104.4 million All-Star to East rival

The Boston Celtics could make some massive moves over the next few months, and their stars are included.

Since winning the championship in 2024, the Celtics have been trending in the wrong direction. While they still managed to earn 61 wins this season, their second-round exit and Jayson Tatum’s torn Achilles might have been the turning point for the franchise.

As the team enters the offseason, it has many big decisions to make on who to bring back for next year. While there are plenty of big names being thrown around, including Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, the Celtics seem most likely to move on from their starting point guard or center from the title team.

While both have the potential to be dealt, Jrue Holiday might be the most likely. With plenty of experience and two title runs under his belt, Holiday could offer a lot of value to a team trying to take the next step.

The perfect fit for Holiday might not be far away either. As suggested by Conor Roche of Boston.com, the Detroit Pistons could be Boston’s perfect trade partner in a Holiday deal.

The easiest way to make the deal work would be to center the trade around Pistons forward Tobias Harris, but there are some other role player combinations that could make the money work while giving the Celtics some more depth.

Sure, the Celtics might not get exactly what they want in a deal for Holiday, but the idea is to make a deal that saves them some money and keeps them within reach of contention when Tatum returns.
