College World Series 2025 live score: LSU vs. Coastal Carolina baseball updates, results, highlights from Game 1

The 2025 college baseball season is coming to an end. Saturday marks the start of the 2025 College World Series Championship Final. The Sun Belt’s Coastal Carolina and the SEC’s LSU will duke it out in a three-game series to determine a national champion.

Coastal Carolina is a smaller school outside Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It has a peculiar mascot that is essentially an angry rooster, and they play on a teal football field; however, they consistently put together respectable baseball teams. The Chanticleers — the angry roosters — finished the season 56-11 and went 26-4 in conference play.

Coastal Carolina was given the No. 13 seed for the College World Series. The Chanticleers have won 26 games in a row dating back to the regular season. Coastal Carolina rolled through its regional, taking down Fairfield and East Carolina before a quick two-game sweep of Auburn in the super regionals. The Chanticleers rolled past Arizona, Oregon State and Louisville in the College World Series to reach the Championship Series.

LSU is known for its football team, but recent alumni have put its baseball team on the map. Pirates ace Paul Skenes and Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews are both former Tigers. LSU went 51-15 this season, but struggled through conference play, going 19-11. The Tigers aren’t riding the same win streak that the Chanticleers are but have won six games in a row.

LSU hosted a regional and went 3-1, losing to Little Rock once, but beating them twice as well as defeating Dallas Baptist to advance. The Tigers outscored the Mountaineers 28-14 in the super regionals to make the College World Series. LSU beat UCLA and Arkansas twice to make the championship finals. The second win over Arkansas was notable because the Razorbacks imploded in the final inning, allowing the Tigers to walk-off

Top of the 3rd

7:57 p.m. — Coastal Carolina’s lineup turns over, and Anderson begins facing them for the second time. The southpaw plunked Bodine to lead off the inning. Alexander sends one to right field for a single, and Bodine moved up to second. Barthol went with an analytics move and tried to lay down a bunt. Alexander used his being left-handed to fire to third for the first out of the inning.

Mitchell struck out and then Coastal took itself out of the inning. Alexander tried to swipe third, but slide past the bag. He scrambled to get back, but was tagged out.

Bottom of the 2nd — Tigers 1, Chanticleers 0

7:48 p.m. — Hernandez grounded out for the first out of the inning. Flukey is locked in right now, and punched out Stanfield. Dickinson lined one to left. It was right into the sun so the Coastal Carolina defender didn’t get a good jump and it fell for a single. No harm came from it, though, as Michael Braswell III lined out to right to end the inning.

7:42 p.m. — Thorndyke starts the inning off by grounding out, giving Anderson a much-needed quick out. Mihos popped out to the left side of the infield, and Anderson has two outs on five pitches after a lengthy first inning. Dooley drew a walk to extend the inning. Anderson punched out Sykes to end the inning.

7:34 p.m. — Curiel worked the count from 0-2 to 3-2, and Flukey walked the leadoff hitter for the Tigers. Frey grounded out to short, but it was slow so while he was out, Curiel moved up to second and avoided the double play. LSU gets on the board first as Milam hits a line drive up the middle of the field, scoring Curiel from second.

Flukey battled back and got Brown to strike out for the second out of the inning. The Coastal Carolina pitcher freezes Jared Jones on a curveball for another punch out.

7:10 p.m. — We are underway as Anderson misses low for ball one to start the game. Bodine grounded out the second pitch to third. Alexander drew a six-pitch walk for the first base runner of the game. The ball got away from Hernandez for LSU, and his passed ball allowed Alexander to get to second. Barthol grounded out to third and was out at first with Alexander unable to advance.

Mitchell battled in his first at-bat, and was able to draw a two-out walk. This caused LSU’s pitching coach to come out, with Anderson at 22 pitches in the first inning. Pado struck out, and Anderson got out of the inning.

Pre-Game

7:00 p.m. — From the pomp and circumstance leading up to first pitch, this one will get underway closer to 7:09 p.m., per the timer on the broadcast.

6:45 p.m. — Here is how the Chanticleers will line up for Game 1. As Coastal Carolina has done in the playoffs, they are throwing their usual No. 3 starter in the first game of the series to leave their dynamic duo for the second and third games.
