Eagles vs. Chiefs live score, updates, highlights from NFL Week 2 Super Bowl rematch

JUMP TO:

Just over seven months ago, green confetti fell in Caesars Superdome. Jalen Hurts’ relentless journey back to the Super Bowl had been rewarded, while Patrick Mahomes’ attempt at the NFL’s first three-peat had fallen short.

Despite playing in different conferences, Hurts’ Eagles and Mahomes’ Chiefs have felt destined for annual premier matchups as two of the league’s most talented, complete teams. Sunday’s Week 2 meeting between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will be the fifth career meeting between the star quarterbacks, who are the only passers in NFL history to beat each other in the Super Bowl.

Hurts is one of the few quarterbacks who can say they’ve bested Mahomes in the last few years. The Eagles have made this matchup a fascinating inter-conference rivalry; the first two Hurts-vs-Mahomes meetings were Chiefs wins, as Kansas City came out victorious in Philadelphia in 2021 then got a clutch Super Bowl LVII win. Hurts has had Mahomes’ number in the last two matchups though, from a 2023 victory at Arrowhead to February’s 40-22 rout for the Eagles’ second-ever title.

Add in the various off-the-field storylines connecting these two teams — the Kelce brothers, Taylor Swift’s Eagles roots, Andy Reid’s coaching history, etc. — and they put on a show every time they meet.

As the Eagles continue their defense of the Lombardi Trophy following a dramatic season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys, the Chiefs already face some questions after a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. It’s not too often that we get Super Bowl rematches, let alone within a half-year of the big game. Sunday afternoon marks a significant opportunity for Philadelphia and Kansas City to prove their placement among the NFL’s elite early in the 2025 season.

The Sporting News is tracking live updates and highlights as the Eagles and Chiefs meet for a Super Bowl rematch in Week 2 of the NFL season. Follow along with the action below.

Eagles vs. Chiefs live updates, highlights from NFL Week 2 Super Bowl rematch

All times ET.

6:58 p.m. — The Chiefs’ offense has been stagnant, as they go three-and-out. Philadelphia gets the ball back with around six minutes remaining.

Eagles 20, Chiefs 10

6:48 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — If the Tush Push fails once, try again. Hurts gets into the end zone on his second attempt, and Philadelphia extends its lead in Arrowhead. The Mukuba interception proves critical in this game.

6:44 p.m. — Philadelphia can’t convert on a touchdown Tush Push on third-and-goal. The Eagles challenged the call that Hurts didn’t cross the plane, but it was unsuccessful.

6:42 p.m. — Momentum is swinging in Philadelphia’s favor. Hurts finds Smith for 28 yards, and he’s down at the Chiefs’ three-yard line. The Eagles can make this a two-score game.

6:34 p.m. — Picked off by Andrew Mukuba in the end zone! The rookie out of Texas is having a game, as Travis Kelce tipped the ball right toward him. Mukuba then grabs it and sprints down the left sideline in a huge play for the Eagles; he would have taken it for the distance if not for Kansas City’s last tackler, Josh Simmons.

End of third quarter: Eagles 13, Chiefs 10

6:28 p.m. — The Chiefs are threatening points at the end of the third quarter. Mahomes hits Tyquan Thornton for 11 yards, and with the squad trailing by three in a defensive game, this could be a defining drive for Kansas City.

6:27 p.m. — Kansas City is in the red zone after an 11-yard gain from Hollywood Brown. Can they capitalize and take the lead?

6:23 p.m. — The Mahomes-Kelce connection is back at it with a 23-yard gain to get into Eagles territory.

6:16 p.m. — Omarr Norman-Lott takes down Hurts on a 2nd & 11. While Barkley appears to be starting to wear down the Chiefs’ defense, they get a nice stop to set Philadelphia back thanks to Norman-Lott.

The Eagles punt, keeping this game a back-and-forth defensive battle.

6:12 p.m. — Kansas City goes three-and-out, unable to find any momentum. Mahomes has just 60 passing yards on 9-of-16 passing, which is partially due to his 60 rushing yards.

Eagles 13, Chiefs 10

6:05 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Jake Elliott’s long-distance issues appear to be behind him. He hits one from 51 yards out to give Philadelphia the lead back.

6:01 p.m. — Devonta Smith is grabbing at his lower back after Hurts went deep to him on an incompletion. Smith then went to the medical tent, but he appears to be fine on the sideline.

5:56 p.m. — What a defensive series from Philadelphia to open the second half. First, Eagles rookie safety Andrew Mukuba, who also was credited with a half-sack earlier, keeps Hollywood Brown from a first down just one yard shy. Then, Kareem Hunt gets stuffed on a fourth-down try, and the Chiefs turn it over on downs.

5:55 p.m. — Kansas City has the ball with the second half underway.

Halftime: Chiefs 10, Eagles 10

5:39 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Jake Elliott knocks one through the uprights from 58 yards out, knotting the Super Bowl rematch at 10 points as we got to halftime. Neither offense has looked spectacular, with Mahomes’ legs lifting the Chiefs and some short-range passes from Hurts, and a Barkley touchdown run, helping the Eagles.

However, after both were quiet in Week 1, A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith have combined for eight receptions.

5:36 p.m. — A.J. Brown with a nice grab to get the Eagles closer to the end zone:

5:28 p.m. — At the two-minute warning, Hurts scrambles for 11 yards as the Eagles look to tie or take the lead before halftime.

Chiefs 10, Eagles 7

5:20 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — There may be a lack of explosiveness from a usually-dominant Chiefs offense so far this season, but they haven’t backed down from physical plays at all thanks to Patrick Mahomes. He lowers his shoulder on a six-yard gain, then one play later, he dives to the pylon for a 13-yard score.

Mahomes has five carries for 60 yards already, taking a page out of Hurts’ book by scrambling and taking what the defense gives him on the ground.

5:18 p.m. — What a play on fourth down from Travis Kelce. Mahomes goes to his most reliable target on a 4th & 4, and Kelce grabs it, gets the first down with the ball in one hand, then gets a few more yards with his physicality.

5:16 p.m. — Jordan Davis swats a Mahomes pass. He’s doing everything he can to keep the offense moving, but the Chiefs haven’t gotten too much outside of 23 yards over four runs for Kareem Hunt.

5:09 p.m. — The Eagles punt after a penalty pushed them back to a 3rd & 15. Kansas City gets the ball back with a chance to take the lead. So far, Barkley’s totaled 24 yards on the ground, which has been bested by only Mahomes’ 41 over multiple scrambles.

Eagles 7, Chiefs 3

5:03 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Mahomes had trouble with the Eagles’ pressure in February, and he’s already facing more. Andrew Mukuba and Za’Darius Smith take him down, which leads to a field goal from Butker.

5:00 p.m. — Travis Kelce opens the second quarter with a 16-yard catch.

End of first quarter: Eagles 7, Chiefs 0

4:58 p.m. — At the end of the first quarter, it’s Philadelphia on top. Both offenses came out fairly slow, but the Eagles heated up with a few plays to Smith, then a Barkley touchdown run up the middle.

Eagles 7, Chiefs 0

4:51 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Saquon Barkley returns to somewhere he spent a lot of time in 2024: the end zone. The star running back sprints for a 13-yard score, putting the Eagles up first in the Super Bowl rematch. Barkley may not have scored in the Super Bowl, but he gets in against the Chiefs this time around.

4:49 p.m. — Devonta Smith has three early catches, including a 13-yard play to push Philadelphia toward the red zone as the first quarter winds down.

4:46 p.m. — The Super Bowl rematch remains scoreless. Harrison Butker misses a 58-yard field goal, and the Eagles offense is coming back on the field.

4:43 p.m. — Kansas City has the ball for its second drive following an Eagles three-and-out. A.J. Brown, after a quiet Week 1, does have a few targets. A Mahomes scramble has the Chiefs moving the ball.

4:37 p.m. — Both defenses are off to a strong start. Zach Baun brought pressure on Mahomes on third down, and the Chiefs punt.

4:34 p.m. — Kansas City’s defense gets a key stop on its first drive. Hurts’ pass to Devonta Smith isn’t enough, and Patrick Mahomes will get the football.

4:32 p.m. — Philadelphia converts on an early Tush Push, approaching mid-field.

4:29 p.m. — They’re under way at Arrowhead. The Chiefs deferred, meaning Jalen Hurts and the Eagles got the ball first.

Hurts lost the ball on one of the first plays, but the Eagles jumped back on it.

Pregame

4:20 p.m. — The pregame scene at Arrowhead:

4:17 p.m. — And Philadelphia’s inactives can be found below. Sam Howell remains the QB2.

4:16 p.m. — The official inactive players for KC:

3:01 p.m. — Travis Kelce showed up to the big game in style.

3:00 p.m. — A reminder on the Chiefs: WR Xavier Worthy is out today. He’s dealing with a shoulder injury that came in Week 1.

2:59 p.m. — Hurts and Mahomes have also made a habit out of big performances in this matchup. They’re knotted at 2-2 in head-to-head matchups, while Hurts has the advantage in a few statistical categories.

2:57 p.m. — Here’s a look at the past results between Kansas City and Philadelphia, which has somehow become an annual rivalry:

2:56 p.m. — While tight end Dallas Goedert and running back Will Shipley are out today for Philadelphia, new pass rusher Za’Darius Smith could be taking his first snaps with the team.

2:55 p.m. — Dating back to Super Bowl 59, the Chiefs have lost two straight games. If they lose today, they’d be in uncharted territory with Patrick Mahomes.
