
Carlos Alcaraz stayed on course for his first Monte-Carlo Masters title as he defeated German qualifier Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-1 to power into the quarterfinal.
The Monte-Carlo Masters, set on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, is the first ATP 1000 clay event of the season and the French Open champion will be keen to make his mark. Alcaraz has not yet a won a Masters title on clay outside of Madrid.
Playing his first quarterfinal in the Principality, Alcaraz will take on French No 12 seed Arthur Fils.
Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas also progressed to the last eight with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Nuno Borges. He faces Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti next.
