The Buffalo Bills are interviewing Philip Rivers for their head coaching job.
That news came out late Monday morning from multiple NFL insiders, and it caught the football world a bit by surprise. But it also quickly came with a feeling: This might just work. Josh Allen needs a head coach like Rivers, doesn’t he?
The reality is that Allen and Rivers already have a bunch of connections.
For one, the last game Rivers played before he retired the first time was with the Colts against the Bills on Jan. 9, 2021.
The Bills won that game. It was Allen’s first playoff win.

The pair also apparently know each other well.
“With Josh Allen sitting in on interviews, and their close relationship, this makes sense,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on X.
Rapoport added this in a subsequent post:
“Buffalo has been looking for a leader. Hard to imagine a better one. We shall see. But this is pretty real.”

The Bills have brought in a lot of offensive-minded names, including Brian Daboll and Mike McDaniel.
Rivers is different from the rest. Maybe that’s exactly what the Bills, and Allen, need.
