The Dominican Republic has turned the 2026 World Baseball Classic into one massive party.

Behind the superstars Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero, Ketel Marte and more, the Dominicans swept Group D, taking first place with a 4-0 record. Playing in front of an electric crowd in Miami, Florida, every game has felt like a home game.

As we advance to the quarterfinals, the Dominican Republic will remain in Miami as it looks to capture its first World Baseball Classic title since 2013. The first opponent is Korea, who finished second to Japan in Group C. While Korea’s precision pitching kept them competitive in Pool C, they now face the most daunting task in the tournament: slowing down a Dominican offense that averaged nearly eight runs per game in the opening round.

This is where the tournament’s margin for error evaporates. Despite the lopsided offensive stats, the Dominican Republic knows all too well how a single dominant outing from starter Hyun Jin Ryu can derail a dream. As they prepare to face a Korean squad that thrives on fundamental discipline and late-inning pressure, the Dominicans must prove that their high-octane swagger can translate from a group-stage celebration into a cold, calculated march toward the championship.

The Sporting News is tracking all the action from Friday’s quarterfinal. Follow along for all the highlights.
