The madness has arrived, if Thursday’s first-round games were any indication.
The NCAA Tournament is already bringing surprises and overtime thrillers, from No. 12 High Point’s win over No. 5 Wisconsin to No. 11 VCU’s comeback to take down No. 6 North Carolina. The stunner of the tournament’s first full day might have been one upset that didn’t happen, as Siena nearly topped Duke before running out of gas down the stretch.

While top seeds have largely held serve so far, Friday offers another chance for David to make a run at Goliath. Top-seeded Arizona and Florida are both in action, while Kansas, St. John’s and Kentucky are among teams trying to stave off upset bids.
Miami (Ohio) will also make its return to the court after an exciting First Four win over SMU, with a mighty Tennessee defense expected to be a much tougher challenge for the 32-win RedHawks.

1:50 p.m. — With 8:30 left in the game, Santa Clara is still leading, 56-55.
1:04 p.m. — Santa Clara closed the half well and took a 31-29 lead into halftime.
12:46 p.m. — Santa Clara’s Allen Graves has two points and two rebounds, but picked up his third foul of the game with 7:26 left in the first half.
12:37 p.m. — With 10 minutes to go in the first half, the game is tied at 16 apiece. Brandon Garrison leads the way for Kentucky with six points off the bench, while Santa Clara’s leading points scorer is currently Elijah Mahi with five.
12:17 p.m. — The second round of the tournament is officially underway!
(12) Akron vs. (5) Texas Tech
3:00 p.m. — The Red Raiders surge late and pulled away from the Zips to close out their Round of 64 game. Texas Tech won 91-71.
Akron’s Amani Lyles led all scorers with 26 points, while also chipping in three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.

1:53 p.m. — Texas Tech hit back-to-back three-pointers coming out of halftime and Akron was forced to call an early timeout. The Red Raiders lead 46-35 with 19 minutes left in the game.
1:30 p.m. — At halftime, Texas Tech is up 40-35 over Akron.
1:16 p.m. — With 4:39 left in the first half, Texas Tech leads 33-25. The Red Raiders are currently winning the rebounding battle 17-9, helping in their lead.
12:52 p.m. — Seven minutes into the game, Texas Tech leads 12-9. LeJuan Watts leads Texas Tech with four points, while Akron is seeing production from its starters (five points) as well as its bench (four points).
(16) LIU vs. (1) Arizona
5:07 p.m — The Wildcats are moving on to the Round of 32.
With a 92-58 win over LIU, Arizona will face the winner of Villanova vs. Utah State.
3:25 p.m. — The Wildcats clearly learned from Duke’s underestimation of Siena yesterday. They aren’t letting LIU breathe in this one.
They’re up 78-48 with five minutes to go in San Diego.
2:01 p.m. — After the first ten minutes, Arizona leads 29-18 over the LIU Sharks.
Arizona’s Brayden Burries and Mason Porter-Brown lead the way with nine points each.
(14) Wright State vs. (3) Virginia
500 p.m — For the first time since 2019, Virginia has won a NCAA Tournament game.
Behind Jacari White’s career-high 26, the Hoos are moving to the Round of 32 after defeating Wright State.
3:25 p.m. — With twelve minutes to go, Wright State is holding on against the Cavaliers.
Wright State currently leads 56-55. Can they hold strong and pull out the first 14 v. 3 upset of the tournament?
(15) Tennessee State vs. (2) Iowa State
5:10 p.m — Iowa State secured its spot in the Round of 32 on Friday with a dominant performance against Tennessee State, but the victory was dampened by a late-game scare involving Joshua Jefferson.
The star forward, who has been a double-double machine for the Cyclones this season, appeared to aggravate a lower-body injury in the second half, leaving his availability for Sunday’s matchup against Kentucky in serious question.
3:27 p.m. — Iowa State is up 20-7 with thirteen minutes left in the first half.
Cyclones’ star Joshua Jefferson was helped off the court with an apparent left ankle injury. This could be a massive blow for Iowa State’s potential March Madness run.
(13) Hofstra vs. (4) Alabama
5:30 p.m.: Alabama is moving onto the second round.
While Speedy Claxton’s Hofstra Pride hung around, Alabama was too much to handle, scoring 90 points in a 90-70 win. The Crimson Tide move on to play Texas Tech in the Round of 32.
3:29 p.m. — Alabama and Hofstra are up and running in Tampa.
After three minutes, the Crimson Tide lead 8-2.
(9) Utah State vs. (8) Villanova
6:29 p.m.: Utah State is moving on.
Fueled by a 14-1 run in the final minutes, the Aggies defeat Villanova 86-76, setting up a Round of 32 game against Arizona.
Utah State has now won NCAA Tournament games in two of the last three years.
6:09 p.m.: This game is coming down to the wire. With 5:16 remaining, the Wildcats are holding on to a 73-71 lead.
5:12 p.m.: At halftime, Villanova leads Utah State 39-37.
The winner will face No. 1 Arizona.
(11) Miami (Ohio) vs. (6) Tennessee
6:33 p.m.: The magical season for the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks has officially come to an end.
On Friday in Philadelphia, No. 6 Tennessee dismantled the RedHawks en route to a 78-56 win. The Volunteers set up a Round of 32 bout with No. 3 Virginia.
On the other side, Travis Steele’s team ends the season 32-2, winning the MAC regular season title and an NCAA Tournament game.
5:27 p.m.: At halftime, Miami (Ohio) is on the ropes.

9:08 p.m. – Final score: Iowa 67-61 Clemson.
All No. 9 seeds have moved on in the Round of 64.

8:24 p.m. – With 10 minutes to go in Tampa, the Hawkeyes lead 47-37.
Stirtz now has 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
7:59 p.m. – Just after halftime, the Hawkeyes lead 35-25.
Bennett Stirtz and Kael Combs are the game’s leading scorers with 11 points each.
7:13 p.m. – After the first 10 minutes, Iowa holds a 20-10 lead.
Clemson has opened the game shooting 4-18 from the field (22.2%) and just 1/6 from beyond the arc.
6:50 p.m. – The Hawkeyes and Tigers are underway in Tampa. Iowa opened the game as slight 1.5-point favorites.
Kael Combs opened up the scoring on the first possession of the game with a three-pointer for the Hawkeyes.

9:32 p.m. – After 40 minutes in San Diego, the Johnnies emerge victorious 79-53. They await the winner of Kansas-Cal Baptist.

9:07 p.m. – 10 minutes left in the second half, and Saint John’s is up 18 on Northern Iowa.

8:20 p.m. – Halftime has hit in San Diego, and the Johnnies are up big on the Panthers 47-28.
Bryce Hopkins and Oziyah Sellers lead the way, both with 11 points. Zuby Ejiofor is on double-double watch with nine points, five rebounds, along with an assist, two blocks, and a steal.
7:58 p.m. – With just under eight minutes to go, St. John’s is showing no mercy, as they lead 32-13 over Northern Iowa.
7:26 p.m. – The Red Storm and Panthers have kicked off in San Diego.
The winner of this game will take on either Kansas or Cal Baptist in the Round of 32.

9:08 p.m. – The Bruins lead 51-46 over UCF. The Knights are staying in this game; the Bruins can’t seem to pull away.
8:21 p.m. – UCLA is up 35-27 heading into the halftime break.
Eric Dailey Jr. is atop the game’s scoresheet with 12 points. He also has three rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block.
7:57 p.m. – With just under nine minutes to go in Philly, the Bruins lead 24-13.
7:33 p.m. – UCLA vs. UCF is underway in Philadelphia.
(15) Queens vs. (2) Purdue
9:34 p.m. – Braden Smith and Purdue come out on top 104-71 and spoil the Queens Royals’ first NCAA Tournament appearance.

7:37 p.m. – The Boilermakers and Royals have begun their battle in St. Louis.
Purdue guard Braden Smith can break the all-time assists record tonight with two or more assists.
(16) Prairie View A&M vs. (1) Florida
11:43 p.m.: Florida is onto the second round, courtesy of one of the biggest blowouts in NCAA Tournament history.
The Gators started slow, but by the end defeated No. 16 Prairie View A&M 114-55. The 59-point margin of victory fell just short of the all-time tournament record—a 69-point win by Loyola Chicago in 1963—but it officially passed Kansas’ 58-point win over these same Panthers in 1998 for the second-largest gap in March Madness history.
After leading by 26 at the half, the defending champions refused to let up, outscoring Prairie View 48–14 in a second-half stretch that turned a comfortable lead into a historic statement.
10:56 p.m. –The second half is underway in Tampa Bay.
Assuming the most miraculous comeback in NCAA Tournament history doesn’t happen, the defending champions Florida will play No. 9 Iowa in the Round of 32.
10:33 p.m. – At the end of the first half, Florida is taking no chances. They lead 60-21 over Prairie Valley A&M.
Four Gators sit in double figures at halftime (Fland, Chinyelu, Condon, Haugh).
10:06 p.m. – With the first 10 minutes gone, the Gators lead 26-15. They’re currently on an 11-0 run in the last 3:23.
9:44 p.m. – The Gators and Panthers have kicked off the tournament’s final 1-seed vs. 16-seed matchup in Tampa.
Florida is favored by 35.5 points.
(13) Cal Baptist vs. (4) Kansas
11:54 p.m. – California Baptist is making this a game, clawing to a 12-point deficit. But, Peterson answers with some magic of his own and is up to 28 points on the night.
The Jayhawks lead 66-52 as we go under five minutes.
11:07 p.m. — Everyone in the college basketball world knows Kansas can win it all with Darryn Peterson. He showed it in the first half, scoring 15 points in the opening 20 minutes, ending in a buzzer beater to put Kansas up 38-18.
On the other side, Cal Baptist’s star Dominique Daniels Jr. is struggling, going 1-for-10 from the field and scoring only five points.
10:27 p.m. – With 11:40 left in the first half, the Jayhawks lead 13-5, thanks to an 8-2 run in the last 4:06.
Peterson has started off 0/6 from the field.
10:07 p.m. – Darryn Peterson and the Jayhawks have tipped off against the Cal Baptist Lancers from San Diego.
(15) Furman vs. (2) UConn
11:23 p.m. – At halftime, Furman is within striking distance. After a buzzer beater, the Huskies only lead by four, 40-36.
We’re officially on upset watch, with UConn holding on to a slight lead.
10:31 p.m. – The Huskies and Paladins kick off Friday’s final game from Philadelphia.
(10) Missouri vs. (7) Miami (FL)
11:28 p.m. — The second half is underway in St. Louis, with Missouri trailing by one.
11:05 p.m. — At halftime, the Hurricanes lead by one in St. Louis.
Missouri ended the half on a 6-0 run, but still trails Miami 27-26. This game will be decided in the final 20 minutes.
10:47 p.m. — Miami has a seven-point lead as we approach the under-four timeout. It’s been a low scoring affair, with Missouri not eclipsing 20 points in the affair.
10:28 p.m. – After the first ten minutes, the Canes lead 16-12.
Mizzou’s Jayden Stone currently leads all scorers with seven points and four rebounds.
10:07 p.m. – Miami and Missouri have begun play at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
(8) Ohio State vs. (9) TCU
2:27 p.m. — The TCU Horned Frogs are moving on, edging out the Buckeyes 66-64.
Xavier Edmonds hit the go-ahead layup with 4.4 seconds left. OSU’s Bruce Thornton had a chance to win the game with a half-court heave, but his effort was off the mark.

2:09 p.m. — The Cornhuskers are well in control at Paycom Center. They lead 56-37 and look to be well on their way to their first NCAA Tournament win.
1:39 p.m. — Nebraska heads into halftime up 41-25.
1:19 p.m. — Nebraska settled in and started running away with the game. After the 10-minute mark, the Cornhuskers went on a 17-2 run in the next five minutes of game time.

1:03 p.m. — It is hard to imagine that the Cornhuskers are still looking for their first NCAA Tournament win. Even though they matched up with No. 13 Troy in the first round, Nebraska may be feeling the pressure. With 10 minutes to go in the first quarter, Troy has the game tied 15-15.

3:55 p.m. — Louisville survives against a great second-half effort from USF. They hold on 83-79 and are moving on to the Round of 32.

3:08 p.m. — Halfway through the second 20 minutes, and the Cardinals are well in control over the Bulls 66-44.
Louisville is shooting 50% from downtown (12/24), while USF is at a mere 9.1% (2/22).
2:26 p.m. — The Louisville Cardinals head into the half up 37-27 on the USF Bulls.
Isaac McKneely is currently the game’s leading scorer with 11 points, shooting 4/5 from the field.

11:46 p.m.: Illinois put up the highest number of points in a game today, scoring 105 in a 35-point blowout win over No. 14 Penn.
David Mirkovic led the way for the Illini, scoring 29 points to go along with 17 rebounds in a career night. Now, the Illini turn their attention to Saturday, when they’ll face No. 11 VCU.
11:27 p.m.: Illinois has turned this game into a blowout.
The Fighting Illini lead by 28, 79-51, with 7:45 remaining in the second half.
In all likelihood, we will have Illinois vs. VCU on Saturday.

(8) Georgia vs. (9) Saint Louis
12:15 a.m.: Saint Louis finishes off a 102-77 rout of Georgia, with six players scoring in double figures and Kanon Catchings shooting 0-of-11 for the Bulldogs. It’s Saint Louis’ first NCAA Tournament win since 2014.
11:50 p.m.: It’s a Billiken blowout.
Halfway through the second frame, St. Louis leads 83-52 over Georgia, with a game against Michigan in their sights.
10:11 p.m. — Georgia vs. Saint Louis has tipped off in Buffalo. The Billikens strike first on a fast-break layup.
(3) Gonzaga vs. (14) Kennesaw State
12:38 a.m.: Kennesaw State ultimately doesn’t have the firepower to pull any closer than two possessions down, and Gonzaga wins a physical game to set up a matchup with Texas.
12:27 a.m.: A flagrant foul and subsequent free throws have Kennesaw State back within seven.
12:23 a.m.: Gonzaga has never fully pulled away, but Kennesaw State hasn’t had the outside shooting to get back into it. It’s a 9-point game with about three minutes remaining.
11:59 p.m.: We have a close one between Gonzaga and Kennesaw State, with the Bulldogs leading by six with 10:39 remaining.
11:25 p.m.: At halftime, No. 3 Gonzaga leads Kennesaw State 33-27.
(2) Houston vs. (15) Idaho
12:15 a.m.: Houston finishes off a dominant 78-47 win, extending a trend of comfortable first round wins for the Cougars in this tournament. Idaho scored less than 25 points in each half, while five players scored in double figures for Houston.
11:30 p.m.: The second half is underway in Houston-Idaho, and it’s the Cougars who have a commanding 24-point lead.
