Pfaff channels the '80s with Motul livery for Laguna Seca

Pfaff Motorsports’ No. 9 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 will have a different look for this weekend’s TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, continuing the Canadian team’s ongoing tradition of bringing a special livery to the Laguna Seca round.

As Team Manager Steve Bortolotti explains: “Basically, the livery is a chance for us to get creative and have some fun throughout the season. It’s almost becoming a bit of a tradition to do something special with Motul USA at Laguna. The concept is inspired by vintage Motul liveries you’d see in the ’80s. It’s an era that the team is really passionate about – the type of cars we had on our walls as kids.

“We actually landed on a second look for the car as well, based off Motul packaging, more of a modern look. It was sharp and honestly, we would have been happy with either option. We’ve always been big on getting our fans involved as much as possible, it made sense to give them a chance to vote for their favorite of the two looks.”

The winning livery in the one-on-one fan showdown was announced by Pfaff on April 11th and was recently wrapped on the No. 9 Lamborghini driven by Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli.

“Both liveries were rendered and designed by C17 Auto Armour, then they get bounced around ours and  Motul’s marketing departments. Then C17 ultimately brings it to life,” Bortolotti said. “It’s a big team effort. Our partnership with Motul is pretty special to us. Beyond the proven products they share the same passion for Motorsport we do, and this is a pretty good example of that.”

Pfaff’s 2023 special livery incorporated Motul’s 1957 logo on the classic red and black buffalo plaid Porsche 911 GT3 R. In 2024, the Pfaff McLaren 720S GT3 EVO’s throwback look paid homage to the McLaren MP4/4 Formula 1 car and the late Ayrton Senna, 30 years after his death in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

In the here and now, Pfaff, Caldarelli and Mapelli are looking for a turnaround after a DNF in Daytona and a lackluster 10th-place finish in Sebring. Pfaff scored its best finish of 2024 at Laguna Seca, finishing second – a result that they matched at Watkins Glen.
