The Pittsburgh Pirates are quite familiar with Carson Fulmer’s signature.
They just haven’t seen him actually pitch in an MLB regular season game in their uniform.
Fulmer signed a contract with the Pirates on Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Colin Beazley.
Another Pirates writer, Alex Stumpf, then shared this: “Carson Fulmer begins his fourth stint with the Pirates without appearing in a Major League regular season game with them. That has to be a record.”
It does indeed sound like a record.

Fulmer was originally a first-round pick (No. 8 overall) in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt by the Chicago White Sox.
He was a highly regarded pitching prospect, but he’s rarely been effective at the big league level.
Fulmer has pitched for the White Sox, Angels, Reds, Tigers and Orioles. He has a career 5.44 ERA, and that was 5.83 in 13 outings with the Angels in 2025.
He first joined the Pirates on Aug. 24, 2020, when he was claimed off waivers from the Tigers. He was soon waived and left for the Orioles.
But then on Sept. 21, 2020, the Pirates claimed Fulmer back from Baltimore.
They waived him in March 2021, when the Reds grabbed him.
The Pirates then signed Fulmer as a free agent on Dec. 12, 2024, but he was released on June 2 without pitching in the majors.
That brings us to Feb. 23, 2026, and Fulmer is back with the Pirates. Maybe this time he’ll get into a game once the regular season arrives.
