The Boston Red Sox are surging on the field, but the front office continues to make moves they believe are best for the club.
Boston has made a change to its pitching staff before today’s game.
According to a report from Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the Red Sox designated left-hander Danny Coulombe for assignment.
The 36-year-old posted a 4.50 ERA in 22 innings with the AL East club.
“He doesn’t have overwhelming stuff, but he’s delivered a sub-3.00 ERA in each of the past four years. He heads to DFA limbo with a solid chance to find another home,” Charlie Wright of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
“Boston has five days to work out a trade or place him on waivers,” Wright added about Coulombe’s DFA. “If he goes unclaimed, he has enough service time to forego a minor league assignment and enter free agency.”
The Red Sox were Coulombe’s sixth team in his 12 MLB seasons.

On Sunday, Cotillo added that the Red Sox have recalled right-hander Bryan Bello from Triple-A to take Coulombe’s place on the roster.
Bello will be in Boston’s bullpen for his return to the Majors, according to Cotillo.
In four starts at Triple-A Worcester, Bello posted a 4.34 ERA with 22 strikeouts and just four walks in 18.2 innings.
