Tyran Stokes’ wait is nearly over. The No. 1 overall recruit in college basketball’s 2026 recruiting class is expected to make his college selection on Tuesday night during ESPN’s Inside the NBA at 6:30 p.m. ET.
The 6-foot-7 generational wing is between the Kansas Jayhawks and Kentucky Wildcats. Stokes is also the only top-ten player yet to make a college commitment, setting the stage for one program to pull ahead in the recruiting rankings.
What’s important to note here is Stokes will certainly be a one-and-done player next year. For Kansas, the plug-and-play ability would be key under Bill Self, who has dealt with decades of NBA talent. As for Kentucky under Mark Pope, the path isn’t as well-defined but having a chance to stay home for the Louisville native would be.
Kansas is viewed as the favorite despite Stokes being a Nike athlete. Either way, we’ll find out soon where Stokes ends up.

Tyran Stokes announcing his commitment tonight will be interesting for a variety of reasons:

My final thoughts on Tyran Stokes and this recruitment. It’s ending with Nike vs. Adidas, Pope vs. Self, Kentucky vs. Kansas.
I think he’ll end up at Kansas. I’ve thought that for a while, just because I assume the relationships will have more of an impact than anything. I know…
