The Indiana Fever have a prominent supporter heading into the WNBA playoffs.
Australian basketball legend Lauren Jackson revealed that she wants Indiana to win the championship, citing Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell as the primary reasons she enjoys watching the Fever. Jackson made her selection during an appearance on Sue Bird’s “Bird’s Eye View” podcast.
“I actually want Indiana to win, believe it or not,” Jackson said. “I’ve said this before, I love watching Caitlin Clark. I love the way she plays. When she gets hot, it’s epically awesome to watch.”
The two-time WNBA champion also singled out Mitchell.
“I love Kelsey Mitchell,” Jackson said. “I love the way she plays.”

Indiana entered the World Cup break at 26-14 and in fifth place. That positioning makes the Fever an unconventional championship choice, but their underlying numbers suggest they are far more dangerous than a typical middle seed.

The Fever own the WNBA’s best offensive rating at 117.9. Clark and Mitchell combine to average 47.5 points per game. Aliyah Boston gives Indiana a dependable interior scorer, rebounder and defender, while Sophie Cunningham helps stretch the floor and supplies needed toughness.
When Clark and Mitchell are both rolling, opponents must defend nearly every inch of the half court. Clark can punish aggressive coverage with her passing, and Mitchell is one of the league’s best difficult-shot makers. Indiana also knows it can survive playoff pressure. The Fever reached the semifinals last season despite playing without Clark, demonstrating that their supporting cast and defensive structure can hold up in a postseason series.

Indiana still has work to do before the playoffs
The Fever have four regular-season games remaining, leaving them with an opportunity to climb from fifth place.
Home-court advantage would be valuable, but Indiana’s ceiling will ultimately depend on consistency. A high-powered offense can win playoff games, although defensive execution, rebounding and late-game decisions become more important in a series. Jackson understands championship basketball better than most. She won two WNBA titles, three MVP awards and built one of the greatest careers in women’s basketball history.
Her support does not guarantee a Fever championship, but it reflects the respect Indiana’s offense has earned.
Few teams are more dangerous when Clark catches fire. Even fewer have a second scoring threat as explosive as Mitchell.
