Messi and Müller's Bundesliga assist record is in Olise's sights

Michael Olise is currently sitting on 18 assists in the Bundesliga this season, just shy of tying the single-season record that has been set by both Thomas Muller and Lionel Messi. There are only seven matches left in the season for Bayern. This could not have gotten any simpler.

Three assists in seven matches is easily achievable for Olise. In fact, this would qualify as having an off week for him.

Bayern’s record within reach for a €60m gamble

When Bayern Munich paid €60 million for Olise during the summer transfer window of 2024, many people were skeptical. That skepticism came from two hamstring injuries suffered by Olise in his final season at Crystal Palace.

He is now referred to as “the best Bundesliga transfer of the last 10 years” by German midfielder Christoph Kramer. This is a quick turnaround in terms of reputation.

No other winger in Europe’s Big Five leagues has been as involved in scoring as Olise this season with 37 goals involved in. This makes him the most involved winger in Europe at this stage of the season.

Harry Kane spoke highly of his ability to breeze past defenders, while Luis Diaz was straight to the point, saying “Michael destroys you in one-on-one situations.”

Olise topped the Bundesliga assists charts last season with 15 assists, marking him as the best assist maker in the whole league. However, this time around, he is going for a different record altogether.

Three assists in seven matches for a player with nearly one assist per game is definitely not impossible.
