They hold a two-stroke lead over Kurt Kityama, Patrick Reed and Jason Day, who are tied at 3-under. There were some well-known golfers who had rough days on the links. Bryson DeChambeau couldn’t recover from a bad triple-bogey and finished four-over on Thursday. Jon Rahm went viral for three-putting after starting three feet from the pin, and couldn’t recover and heads into Friday with a 6-over.

What will the second day of action have in store, as the field will narrow as the cut line looms?

All times ET. This section will be updated.

Round 2

8:55 a.m. — The player finding the most early success today is Wyndham Clark, who puts up consecutive birdies on Holes 2 and 3.

8:20 a.m. — It’s no sure thing, but history says the 2026 Masters winner is already high on the leaderboard. Will any of the names earn the green jacket?

8:18 a.m. — More good weather is on the way in Augusta.

8:09 a.m. — Four groups have teed off, and the action is underway for Round 2.

6:30 a.m. — Good morning from Day 2 at Augusta. The second round begins with Samuel Stevens and Sungjae Im teeing off at 7:40 a.m.

Round 1

7:30 p.m. — That will do it for the first round of the 2026 Masters. All of the groups are done for the day. The leaders sit at 5-under and the projected cut line is . Only 16 players finished under par.

7:19 p.m. — Scheffler has wrapped his day and he finished 2-under. McIlroy and Burns remain atop the leaderboard sitting at 5-under.

7:00 p.m. — Rose ended up bogeying No. 17 and finished his first round with a three-under. The first day of competition is winding down and Scottie Scheffler is still on the course. He is 2-under through 17. Jon Rahm, who had finished 6-over on the day, took himself to the practice area to try and work out what his plaguing him during the round.

6:22 p.m. — Rose is right behind the leaders. With two holes to go, he is just one stroke behind McIlroy and Burns, sitting at 4-under.

6:00 p.m. — Several golfers were able to hole out on No. 13 and Justin Rose came close. He nearly dropped his approach in the cup, but converted the near miss into a birdie.

5:40 p.m. — Scheffler bogeyed No. 11, so he is 2-under on the day. That puts him only three strokes off the lead and one stroke off a tie for third, but he started 3-under through his first three holes and hasn’t been able to capitalize since.

5:20 p.m. — A rough day for Corey Conners became much more manegable with this beautiful shot for birdie.

4:55 p.m. — How important is the first round? Well, 79 of the 89 all-time winners were within five strokes of the lead after the first round. With Burns and McIlroy at 5-under, this historically would mean that those hoping to win this year would need to finish even or better after the first.

4:20 p.m. — There have been some impressive hole-outs in the first round. This one from Adam Scott on No. 13 saw him hit the ball past the hole, but he played the lie perfectly and with the right amount of spin, the ball came back and fell in the cup.

4:00 p.m. — McIlroy’s day comes to a close with an impressive opening round. When he finished, he was tied for the lead at 5-under. It is notable that he had a better first-round score than Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods did in their first rounds when they repeated as Masters champions.

3:45 p.m. — Bryson DeChambeau’s first round is in the books. He was never able to recover from his triple-bogey on No. 11 and heads into the second round 4-over.

3:25 p.m. — McIlroy is feeling it late in the first round, sinking a long and curving birdie.

3:00 p.m. — Sam Burns has set the bar for the first round. He wrapped up his day at five under par.

2:32 p.m. — McIlroy may be struggling to find fairways, but he is already landing big putts. He moved to 3-under on the day with this birdie on No. 13.

2:13 p.m. — Lowry needed this. After an embarrassing three-putt from three feet earlier in his round, he countered it by holing out for an eagle on No. 13.

2:00 p.m. — The Par-3 Contest winner has never won the Masters tournament in the same year. Aaron Rai was the 2026 Par-3 winner and is off to a great start int he tournament, three-under through five holes.

1:44 p.m. — Scottie Scheffler’s first round has begun. He pumped the ball down the middle of the fairway for a good start.

1:36 p.m. — Kristoffer Reitan had an impressive shot on the 13th hole from 236 yards out, landing on the green. He was looking at an eagle, put his ball had bounced and rolled to the fringe past the hole. Reitan sank the eagle putt anyway, his biggest shot of his round so far.

1:11 p.m. — Xander Schauffele’s first round had some excitement as one of his drives landed in a spectator’s bag.

12:56 p.m. — Matt Fitzpatrick did not make a fan during his round. His drive on the third hole tailed right and it ended up knocking a patron’s beer right out of their hand. The best part was the fan looking around like he wondered who it was as if some random person hit his beer out of his hand rather than a professional golfer.

12:39 p.m. — While he is still playing well enough it hasn’t outright hurt him, McIlroy has now missed all eight fairways as he starts his first round.

12:29 p.m. — Reigning winner Rory McIlroy is through seven holes. He birdied the second hole and gave it right back with a bogey on the third. McIlroy’s tee shots and early approaches haven’t set him up for much success and with a streak of four pars in a row, he definitely has managed to “save” par on at least three of the holes. Plenty of golf to play, but if he hopes to repeat he will need to settle in soon.

12:04 p.m. — Even golfers playing the Masters are just like us. Shane Lowry had a fourth hole he will want to forget as soon as possible, three-putting from three feet away.

11:59 a.m.: Kurt Kitayama is your new early Round 1 leader, sitting at -4 through 10 holes. He’s got four birdies already.

11:44 a.m.: Haotong Li, now through 16 holes at -1, had a nice recovery on Hole 13, from the creek to a birdie.

10:59 a.m.: Among those who have completed 10 holes, Jose Maria Olazabal is the early leader at -2. Max Homa is also through 11 holes at -11, while the overall leader is Patrick Reed, who is at -3 through three holes thanks to an eagle on Hole 2.

Reed became the sixth player in Masters history to start off birdie-eagle in the first round.

10:58 a.m.: Rory McIlroy’s quest to defend his Masters throne has begun.

10:30 a.m.: Bryson DeChambeau has teed off. He told reporters that he plans to use a 3D printed 5-iron at the Masters.

10:15 a.m.: Carlos Ortiz has had a rough start in Round 1.

9:30 a.m.: Jason Day knows how to bring style to Augusta.

9:02 a.m.: While Naoyuki Kataoka had the first birdie of the tournament, Aldrich Potgieter certainly could have had a better start.

8:09 a.m.: The action is officially underway, with two groups teeing off at 7:50 a.m. ET and another at 8:02 a.m.

8:06 a.m.: With the start of the 90th Masters brings the Honorary Starters Ceremony, with a group of legends on the greens this morning.

Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player were all part of the ceremony.

7:20 a.m.: The weather at Augusta looks to be a non-issue all weekend, and it starts with a partly cloudy day on Thursday. There is no rain in the forecast for the Masters to kick off the tournament.

7 a.m.: Good morning from Augusta National for the first round of the 2026 Masters!
