Even in his first MLB season removed from the Mets, Pete Alonso found a way to put on a show at Citi Field.
The 31-year-old slugger hit 264 home runs for New York from 2019-25, becoming one of the team’s most beloved players and remaining one of the top power threats across baseball — until Alonso let for Baltimore this past offseason, taking his bat to Camden Yards.
On Tuesday, the memories of Alonso in New York came flooding back, as he hit his 300th career home run against his former team. But after Alonso took a curtain call in New York, Mets starter Sean Manaea wasn’t happy postgame.

While neither team has much of a path to the postseason — the Orioles remain four games under .500 after Tuesday’s win — when Alonso took Kodai Senga deep in the top of the ninth, he didn’t just tie the game at three.
Alonso knew he got all of it, throwing his bat toward the dugout as his 300th home run went into the Citi Field seats. Per ESPN, he became the third player to hit his 300th home run against a team for whom he played in 1,000 or more games.

Primarily met with cheers from Mets fans, Alonso then stepped back onto the field for a curtain call.
Mets fans could also be heard chanting “fire Stearns,” referring to David Stearns, the team’s president of baseball operations who let Alonso walk this past offseason.

“There’s a lot of history here with me,” Alonso said postgame, per ESPN. “It doesn’t matter where and when, I just want to help the team win. I’m just really, really happy for us to come back the way we did.”
“Everyone in the dugout was saying go out there. And they were right.”
Postgame, Alonso met with the fans who caught the home run ball.

Sean Manaea calls out Mets fans for curtain call
Curtain calls on the road are rare for a reason — Alonso’s moment with his former fans appeared to have ruffled some feathers of his former Mets teammates.
Manaea, New York’s starter on Tuesday, called Alonso’s curtain call “crazy” postgame.
“As the 2026 Mets, I know we have definitely underperformed. But we are — the guys in here work their ass off every single day, and to have that kind of reaction to an opposing player, could be anybody, is crazy to me,” Manaea said, per ESPN. “Again, I’ve got nothing but respect for Pete. But yeah, just never seen anything like that before.”
He continued, calling out fans for receiving a former player in that fashion.
“Pete’s not here,” Manaea added. “He’s just not here. So I know everybody loves him. He’s the man. But yeah, he’s not here. So to see the reaction from the fans like that, I don’t know, it’s just different.”
